2021 was one heck of a year and my life took a real turn of events!
On November 8, 2021. I was going for my routine physical l knew something wasn't right; I thought it was stress with all that was happening in my life. The next day Tuesday, November 9, I had a sonogram in the morning at 800 am and received a call from my Doctor's office at 1100. They wanted to do a Ct scan with contrast that afternoon at 1 o'clock. By the grace of God, I was able to make that appointment. On November 10, I was training on my bike and received a call from my Doctor, and she told me I had a fatty mass in my abdomen. I almost fell off my bike; I just gasped, and my eyes welled.
My Doctor moved fast, and I had an appointment on November 12 at Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center to see Dr. Kane. I will never forget walking into Roswell that day. I was in shock and disbelief. Now I will be a Cancer patient here at Roswell. I opened the door and blessed myself, and said Jesus, I trust in you Jesus take the wheel. I loved Doctor Kane from the get-go. He took his time and explained everything in detail. He said it could be one of three things. I called them door number one, door number two, or door number three, put my hands up in the air, and said, ok, this is out of my control. One two or three Jesus has the wheel.
I would like to share with you that back in February of 2021, I was also diagnosed with Dyslexia at 58 years old. After all these years, I finally understood why I was different and found reading and working with forms so challenging. In October, I went for training north of New York City at the Ron Davis institute for a week. I trained with an amazing woman (suzanne Buchauer) who helped me understand my new gift, The gift of Dyslexia. With my dyslexia training, I used the tools I learned to stay calm and understand what Doctor Kane was telling me. My mass was the size more prominent than a grapefruit on my left side, growing from my back to my front, pushing my stomach out, and the tumor was pressing on my left kidney putting stress on it. On November 15, I went for my biopsy. On November 19, I had an appointment with my urologist. And on November 22 I was waiting for this call, the day I will never forget the day I found out I have Cancer. My head was spinning but trusting God, my doctors, and everyone with me on my new journey. One pedal at a time, focusing on my road ahead and mountains I would be climbing.
My goal is to raise $30,000 this year, and team Gby 9 will have raised over $100,000 since 2017 for Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center.
