Half Way! 2021
ESR 2022 was my third ride across New York State for Roswell Park with Team Holiday Valley. And this year it was a very different ride for me. I was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer on April 1st and I’ve been receiving treatments at Roswell, so even though I shortened my rides each day, I still rode about 350 miles over the week. It was my best ride ever, as I felt great and I am personally invested in Roswell’s work.
In addition to me, 4 close friends have recently been diagnosed with cancer. My good friend George, who was my first donor for this ride, lived only a month after his diagnosis. At first I was angry that it is taking so long to beat cancer. That our mission of curing cancer will never happen. But then I realized that cancer is a giant monster with many weapons. We can't expect to beat it easily or all at once; it will take a long, long time with much work. And that work is funded by this ride.
