Last year, I was fortunate enough to find my way onto the Young Adult team here at Roswell Park. I work with patients diagnosed in their 20s and 30s, and help them navigate employment, relationships, school, families, and the overall chaos that comes with a cancer diagnosis. Young Adults face unique challenges, and it has been my privilege to be able to support these patients and families during such a scary and vulnerable time. Each dollar raised for the Young Adult Love Fest team will go to programs, support, and resources for YA patients right here at Roswell.
My mom faced her first round of cancer in her 30s, and as a middle schooler, I didn't know much about what was going on and all of the nuances of cancer treatment. When she was diagnosed the second time, I was in my 20s, and as her daughter and caregiver, I learned more than anyone should ever know about cancer treatments. No matter your age or circumstance, cancer will always be a scary journey. But, young adults have even more challenges, and I'm honored every day to be able to watch our YAs fight with all they've got.
This year, I'll be bringing both of my girls along for the ride to show them that we can all do our part to make a difference. Every single dollar earned makes a huge difference in the fight against cancer. Money raised will help us treat patients, provide survivorship support, and research new therapies. It is more vital than ever that we come together to make an impact in the fight against cancer.
