In the last week of July, I am cycling over 500 miles across New York State to end cancer. Two years ago, the ride was canceled and I ended up doing the ride on my trainer, over the course of a month, and yes... that was torture! Last year, we rode in person and I didn't quite know what to expect as we left Staten Island on our seven day journey.
The exprience was nothing short of epic! Each day began with an 80+ mile ride, followed by an awesome meal in the evening, and then an evening program where we shared our stories of "why we ride". I'll admit that it was quite an emotional experience rolling into Niagara Falls seven days later.
This year I can't help but think the ride will be a different experience. Our team captain (and my aunt) Jane was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in April. In past years, I rode because Jane told me to! This year, I'm riding *for* Jane.
The Empire State Ride is more than just an amazing bike ride. Everyone knows someone whose life has been affected by cancer. This is my opportunity to make a real difference and impact the state of cancer research from the seat of my bike. Together, we can fuel groundbreaking discoveries and bring an end to this terrible disease.
