With one in two men and one in three women in America being diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime, most of us know someone who has been affected by this devastating disease. You can make a difference by supporting me in The Ride For Roswell.
This year I am riding in honor of Janet Mustard. Janet is a fellow member of Clarence Presbyterian Church as well as a member of our Ride For Roswell Team. She has ridden in honor of her mother Ruth Deal and father George Deal, both affected by cancer. Ruth beat B-cell lymphoma at the age of 84.
Janet had symptoms a year ago and, during a church-sponsored trip to Europe in July, ended up in the American Hospital in Paris on July 4th with fluid in her chest. Returning home, she saw numerous doctors and spent time in a local hospital with no answers. She was admitted to Roswell in September after being diagnosed with stage 4 B-cell lymphoma and complicating infections. She was an inpatient for four months, three of those in the ICU. Roswell doctors and nurses skillfully managed her condition and she was on her feet at the end of 2022.
Janet was home until early March when she was readmitted to Roswell. The lymphoma flared up in her brain and partially paralyzed her. She has been an in-patient since, receiving more potent chemotherapy. The doctors, nurses and staff continue to provide expert care and emotional support to help her toward full recovery.
On June 24th I am biking the 44 mile "Canada" route from Roswell Park, across the Peace Bridge, along the Niagara River to Niagara Falls, Ontario. We'll cross back into Niagara Falls, NY and wind our way back to UB's Amherst Campus. Biking with 3 fellow Eagle Scouts, this will be my eighth Ride For Roswell.
Working together we CAN make a difference. Maybe someday in your life, or the life of someone you love. Perhaps you would like to honor someone who has been affected by cancer as well. Please join me to support this effort. Send a check made out to: "Ride for Roswell" OR make a donation on-line (rideforroswell.org and rider name of "David Burghardt") before June 24th. Last year we again rose over $5000.. Let's beat last year's total!
Thank you for your support!
June 24th...remembering those we have lost; riding for those who battle.
Janet...this ride's for you!
