Most of us know someone who has been affected by cancer. Too many close friends and family members have had to battle this devastating disease and some have won, some have lost, and come continue to fight. I run a research lab at Roswell Park focused on finding new and innovative ways to improve immunotherapy so cancer patients can live longer and healthier lives. What is immunotherapy and why do we need to improve it?
Immunotherapy uses our own body’s immune system to fight cancer. Immunotherapy has been gaining traction over the last decade or so because of its unrivaled ability to eradicate cancer in some patients. Unfortunately, immunotherapy does not work for every patient or for every cancer. My research is focused on finding ways to make immunotherapy an effective treatment option for more cancer patients. I truly believe immunotherapy will be the backbone of virtually all cancer treatments in the near future.
Because research is entirely supported by grant funding and donations, support from the community is paramount to propelling cancer research forward. And The Ride for Roswell is a simple way for you to support my research and the research of others at Roswell. The funds raised through your donations to my Ride will help advance our very promising immunotherapy towards the clinic to help cancer patients live longer and healthier lives. No donation amount is too small!
I have participated in The Ride almost every year since 2007 and will be participating again this year. I will be riding the 20 mile river route.
Thank you for your support and donation!
