In January of 2022, my mother, Suzanne Buchholz, was diagnosed with Stage 4 metastatic breast cancer. She never missed a mammogram and had no known risk factors for cancer. Six percent of women will develop stage 4 breast cancer that is not detected by routine mammograms, while 1/3 individuals will develop cancer in their lifetime.
Sadly, my mother died in November of 2022 after a 10 month battle with breast cancer. She was one of the strongest women that I knew and gave cancer a hard fight. Cancer takes a huge toll on the patient and their loved ones. It requires frequent medical appointments, medications, and at times, 24/7 care. My family and I are incredibly grateful for advanced medical treatment and genetic testing for advanced forms of cancer like my mom’s.
To support innovative treatment and research for cancer, I’m participating in a cycling challenge outside in chilly Buffalo. Winter in Buffalo is tough, but you know who is tougher? Cancer patients and those affected by cancer.
Please join me in honoring my mom and other individuals who have been impacted by cancer. Last year my spin studio, Rebel Ride raised over $40,000 while over $200,000 was raised for Roswell Park Cancer Institute.
Funds raised through this event supports the expansion of cancer genetic services and research at Roswell Park. Will you donate to my IceCycle challenge? We can make a difference together.
