Thank you for visiting our 2023 Ride for Roswell team page!
June 24th is almost here! Sunshine Spinners will be riding to honor my mom and in memory of our family & dear friends that we have lost to leukemia and other cancers.
My mom, Gayle, was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia in October 2022. It sent shockwaves through my heart as I sat beside here listening to the doctor deliver the devastating news. How could this be happening again?? AML is the same form of leukemia that we lost Matt's mom, Judy (age 61) and nephew Nathan (age 7), to in 2001 and 2006. It is an extremely aggressive form of leukemia and we were all terrified.
While the past 6 months have been filled with sleepless nights, countless trips to and from Buffalo, endless questions, doubt and "what ifs", we have also experienced unconditional love, compassion, support, laughter, hope and incredible care from the AMAZING doctors, nurses and staff at Roswell Park... beyond what we ever thought possible.
Your donations directly help those that need it. They provide the funding researchers need right now to investigate groundbreaking new treatment options that could save lives. In fact, for every dollar donated, Roswell Park can leverage an additional $13 in new grant funding. But their work doesn't end at medical treatment. It encompasses the mental, emotional and spiritual wellness of their patients and families. When you participate in or donate toward Ride for Roswell, you’re making it possible for Roswell Park experts to run an array of Quality-of-Life Programs. We have witnessed many of these first hand throughout my mom's journey. She had the opportunity to participate in a clinical trial for her first chemotherapy treatment which helped get her leukemia into remission in preparation for her bone marrow transplant. She has been able to create art projects in her room with the creative arts team, work with stylists from the hair salon in choosing wigs and head coverings and a reiki therapist has provided anxiety relief. All of these, I believe, contribute to her mental and emotional well-being while navigating her way through these uncertain times.
Sunshine Spinners is taking recruits! We would love to have you join us. There are 9 routes ranging from 5 miles to 100 miles. Anything from a recreational family ride to longer endurance distances and everything in between! There is truly something for everyone. And if you can't be in Buffalo on June 24th, there is an option to "Ride Your Own Way".
No matter how you choose to support us, YOU are making a difference for my mom and the lives of the more than 40,000 patients who turn to Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center for hope each year.
Finding a cure for cancer is something we are incredibly passionate about and we are so grateful for your support. Together, we can make a difference!
