Riding across New York State isn’t for the faint of heart. It takes courage and a commitment to something greater than oneself. On the 10th anniversary of the Empire State Ride, I’ve committed to cycling more than 500 miles from NYC to Niagara Falls for one reason: to end cancer. This is my opportunity to shape the future of cancer research and treatment while honoring everyone affected by cancer.
I am riding in memory of a previous co-worker Nancy Engel:
Nancy died last summer after a 7 1/2 year battle with lung cancer. She underwent various treatments, including targeted therapies, chemotherapy, and radiation. Nancy endured her treatments with faith and hope, thankful for the time that she was given. By June 2023, Nancy had exhausted all viable treatment options and entered hospice care. She entered heaven on July 15, 2023.
I am riding in honor of my friend Matt Bland (survivor):
On August 11, 2015, Matt was diagnosed with Stage III Rectal cancer, at the age of 41. The husband and father of two had ignored symptoms for nearly a year before talking to a doctor. Over the next year, he underwent 6 weeks of chemo/radiation, 2 surgeries & 4 months of chemo. In May 2024, Matt will celebrate 8 years of NED (no evidence of disease).
I am riding in honor of my sister-in-law Lisa Gregory (survivor):
Her story: "It was just over 8 years ago that I started my fight against cancer. I discovered the lump during self examination. That lead to lots of testing, followed by diagnosis of triple negative breast cancer and treatment. I had chemo, lumpectomy surgery and radiation. It was hard, but everything went exactly as planned. God provided and I am now considered cured. Throughout everything I claimed 1 Thess 5:16-18, "Rejoice always, Pray without ceasing, In everything give thanks" and I sang Great is Thy Faithfulness to myself daily."
I am attempting to raise $10,000 to fund more research. Your gift of any size will help me reach that goal.
Mile by mile, year by year, we're getting closer to finding cures. Will you help me hit the organizational's goal of raising $10 million in 10 years?
