It’s been twenty years since my brother Brian was diagnosed with ALL leukemia, a day that forever changed our lives and they way we view it. Five years of treatment, mediport infections, pulling over while on the way to the hospital to throw up and meeting families going through their worst nightmare together. Many families we grew close to had to bury their children.
We are grateful everyday that we have Brian. We are grateful for Roswell park and answered prayers. As time went on we didn’t talk about the pain that we endured during those sad years, we didn’t talk about the children who didn’t survive- it was just too painful.
A few years ago those wounds were opened when meeting my neighbors and getting to know their story of their grand daughter Bella. Although this beautiful young girl spent most of her short life battling cancer, she did so with a smile. She had an ability to influence her community to smile and live for the moment. Although we only met a few times, she left a profound impact on me as she did it seems anyone who knew her.
This year I ride in memory of Bella and in honor of my brother. I ride so that pediatric cancer is a thing of the past. I ride so that no family has to endure the pain of watching their child suffer.
Please help me raise critically needed funds to support the thousands of patients who turn to Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center for hope each year. Your donation provides funding researchers need right now to investigate new treatment options that could save lives. For every dollar donated, Roswell Park can leverage an additional $13 in new grant funding!
Please consider donating today. Together, we can end cancer!
