Grace and gratitude - two descriptors which embody so many folks battling cancer but none more than our friend and colleague Danielle Mangat. Danielle is a valued member of our bereavement department at Hospice and Palliative Care Buffalo. She was diagnosed with sarcoma, a rare form of cancer, and has been undergoing treatment at Roswell Park since her diagnosis in 2018.
When I decided to participate in the Empire State Ride, I reached out to see if any of my Hospice coworkers would want to make the trek with me. One of my first responses came not from someone who would ride with me but from Danielle who would potentially benefit directly from our efforts and those of our fellow riders.
Danielle who now is contending with advanced cancer wrote me to express her gratitude. She was being considered for treatment through a clinical trial and the cost of treatment per patient exceeded $100,000. Treatment such as this is funded entirely by the generous donors captured through events like the Empire State Ride. In Danielle’s words, “It is only through the generosity of donors and riders, such as yourself, that much of the vital supportive services and treatment options are available to patients like me and their families. I cannot thank you enough.”
The Hospice and Palliative Care Buffalo team proudly rides in honor of all Roswell patients but especially in honor of our Danielle. Her grace in the face of this challenge and her gratitude in its midst is remarkable.
Please consider donating to support Roswell Park and the vital work they do. The commitment of the professionals that care for patients and those that are the driving force behind the cutting edge research is unwavering. Your generosity is the key to their success.
From the Hospice and Palliative Care Buffalo team and especially Danielle our endless thanks...
