Tomorrow I will ride 100 miles in memory of my mom, Leslie Riggins Carswell, who passed away in February of 2010. She was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer known as retroperitoneal sarcoma, and passed away six months later at the age of 56.
My mom was and will forever be my best friend, and anyone that knew her knows how her energy and smile could light up a room. She loved people and made each person she met feel so special. Her career was dedicated to helping those who were sick, she was a nurse and later an administrator who fundraised to raise money for the cancer clinic she was ultimately treated in.
Many of you may remember that I set out to do the Empire State Ride last year and raised funds for Roswell Park Cancer Institute. Due to the pandemic the ride was cancelled, yet I am proud to say I rode 586 miles out of Buffalo the week that the ride was supposed to take place.
During the week of the ride I was so touched by the many stories friends shared with me about loved ones they have lost from cancer.
Any amount of support you donate is much appreciated. Funds raised will be put towards breakthrough cancer treatments, advances in personal medicine, and groundbreaking clinical trials.
