On June 25, I will be participating in the Ride For Roswell for the fourth year! As a nine year prostate cancer survivor, I know firsthand the excellent care and treatment provided by Roswell Park. I am humbled to be cancer free!
Cancer has affected so many of my friends and family. Just a few weeks ago we got news that cancer was in our family again. This time it was my wife Nancy, who was given a diagnosis of skin cancer just a few days before Christmas. A week later she had outpatient surgery. After a five hour procedure, she was able to go home knowing they had removed all the cancer. This would not have been possible without research advances. This year will be even more meaningful and we will ride together with passion and gratitude for this blessing. I will also ride on the Rad.Med.Xfactor Team with my sister-in-law, Barb Hails – a long term ovarian cancer survivor who inspires us every year!
I will dedicate my ride in memory of my parents – Mike & Anna Burgio who I miss very much, as well as Nancy’s Mom and her sister Kathy – who I never met because cancer took them too soon.
As I ride 20 miles, I will dedicate my ride in honor of many cousins and friends who have survived cancer, as well as in memory of those family and friends we have lost to this disease.
Funding research is the only way we can cure cancer. Please consider making a donation to support my ride and help raise these critically needed funds so that treatments and procedures for cancer continue to improve.. From the bottom of my heart I thank you for your support!
