This past September, Heaven gained a warrior when our daring, courageous, and loving cousin, Jane Purkis Kearney, passed away at the age of 56 after a long 2-year battle with metastatic breast cancer. Throughout her cancer journey, Jane lived her life to the fullest, seizing every moment she could to make a lasting difference in the lives of her family, and her friends. Seeing her battle through this horrible disease with so much grace and bravery, I knew that I wanted to do something to honor and her amazing life, as well as the lives of others family and friends whom we lost to soon to this terrible disease:
- Ron Stock
- Sheila Kelley
- Carol Mooney
- Christopher Barron
This coming July, on the 10th anniversary of the Empire State Ride, I’ve committed to cycling more than 500 miles from NYC to Niagara Falls for one reason: to end cancer.
Following those we lost fearless example, this endeavor will take courage and a commitment to something greater than oneself. This is our opportunity to shape the future of cancer research and treatment while honoring everyone affected by this horrible illness, like Jane, Ron, Sheila, Carol and Christopher.
As I prepare to take on this massive endeavor, I am asking for the support of others to help me meet my goal. On this milestone year of the Empire State Ride, we’ll be celebrating a decade of cancer breakthroughs as we ride toward a collective $10 million raised for innovative treatments and cutting-edge research.
Together, through physical grit and dedication and your financial support, we can help make a difference in all of the lives touched by this terrible disease.
If there is someone you would like me to ride in honor and memory of, please share with me and I will add them to my jersey and carry them with me on my entire journey.
Mile by mile, year by year, we are getting closer to finding cures thanks to the dedication of Empire State Ride cyclists and donors like you. As we continue to work toward riding for a cure, I ask, will you please help us hit our goal of raising $10 million in 10 years? Every donation helps us in our battle against cancer.
With Gratitude,
Anthony DiCerbo
