My 6-month CT scan in August revealed that my cancer has spread to the liver. We knew this would happen at some point, just not now. As a result of the new tumors, I was started on a treatment that delivers radiation directly to the tumors, no matter where they are. Our goal is having the radiation shrink the tumors and improve my symptoms. I’m halfway through the new treatment, and can’t tell if my symptoms have gotten any better. My next scan will be in June, and even that may be too soon to tell.
Roswell Park Cancer Institute was founded in 1898 in Buffalo, NY and has been designated a ‘comprehensive cancer center,’ meaning it provides research and advanced treatment for all forms of adult (including pNETs) and pediatric cancer. One of the medications they are currently working on is SurVaxM, an innovative brain cancer vaccine against glioblastoma in both adult and pediatric patients. Roswell Park is one of only 15 cancer centers world-wide performing the clinical trials. Last year, the ESR raised over $1.3 million in support of this type of research.
I’m not sure if I’ll be riding in Empire State Ride in July. Currently I can’t ride for very long before the abdominal pain strikes. Sometimes 30 minutes is all it takes. I’ll have to see how I feel as July gets closer.
As you make your charitable donations this year, I ask you to consider supporting Roswell Park. Any donation will go a long way in helping eradicate cancer.
Thank you.
