It is with a heavy heart I am updating my Ride page. On Monday, May 3, heaven gained another angel, my Bills Mafia Sister Mary, one day after her 57th birthday. Special thanks to Dr. Emese Zsiros MD, PhD, FACOG, Director of Research, Associate Professor of Oncology, Associate Fellowship Director, Department of Gynecologic Oncology, at Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center and her wonderful team, for taking such good care of Mary. Per Dr. Zsiros, "Mary was an incredible woman, always so positive, always looking after the people around her. During my last meeting with her, I did tell her that everything we learned about her tumor and disease is helping us to design the next generation of immunotherapy clinical trial for ovarian cancer patients. Her legacy and contribution will never be forgotten! We will all miss Mary at the Ride for Roswell this year. I remember how proudly she stood there 2 years ago with the GYN flag. She was truly a remarkable women and touched all of our lives."
I am pledging to work as hard as I can this year to raise funds to support Dr. Zsiros' research and to help move science forward. Dr. Zsiros promises to continue working hard each and every day, to help more patients with ovarian cancer in the future. Great scientists like my dear friend Eduardo Cortez, are working with her each week to figure out better treatment options.
Any funds I personally raise, will be designated specifically to Dr. Zsiros as follows:
- In memory of Mary Hayward
- Fund = Dr. Zsiros – Ovarian Cancer Research
Funding will allow Drs. Zsiros to develop novel immunotherapy combination clinical trials here at Roswell Park.
Special thanks to ALL those, including Lorenzo Alexander, Russell Salvatore, The Harrison Phillips Family, Bills Mafia, and so many others who are supporting my family and me during this difficult time to build Mary's legacy. We appreciate your help more than you will ever know.
I am also riding in memory of dear family and friends who are no longer with us and along with Mary, are looking down from above, cheering us on in this fight. This is much more than a bike ride for me — it’s my commitment to help find a cure for cancer.
Team RPCS (Roswell Park Cessation Services) is a small but mighty team and we welcome you to join us. When it's safe, we will schedule our Russell J. Salvatore 2nd Annual Bowling Event and we hope you will support us!
Please consider making a donation today to help me reach (and exceed) my fundraising goal. Together, we can help find cancer cures and save lives. Thank you in advance for your kindness and support.
Fly high with the angels Mary. Love, Patti
