Thank you for visiting my personal fundraising page for #RFR23!
My dad, Tom Nicholas, was diagnosed in February 2021 with Multiple Myeloma. Multiple Myeloma is a blood cancer; those mutated cells take over in the bone marrow, and there’s no room for healthy blood cells. It was a long, terrifying, and bumpy road since then - immunotherapy, a failed stem cell transplant, a bacterial infection, a respiratory infection, inpatient chemo therapy, constant labs, tests, blood transfusions, and so many visits to Roswell we lost count.
In February 2022, we learned that my dad had stopped responding to all treatments. Our focus then became prolonging his life through transfusions and making the most of every precious day with our family. These transfusions gave us the most important gift of all: time. He was able to get 5 precious months with my daughter, Gia, and for that, I am forever thankful to Roswell.
On April 29, 2022, my dad passed away peacefully surrounded by the love of his family. He was my favorite person on the planet and my best friend. If you knew my dad, you know he was truly larger than life. One of a kind. Life is simply not the same without him.
I've ridden in the Ride for Roswell before (as has my dad!), but this is now our second year with our own team, named Nicholas Strong, to honor my incredible dad. If there is anything we've learned over his 14-month battle, it's that we cannot do this without the love, support and strength of our family and friends.
Last year, we raised over $10,000 in his memory. We are trying to match that goal again this year. Roswell did so, so much for our family, and we are forever thankful. Please consider a donation or joining the team with us! NO ONE FIGHTS ALONE!
