30 years ago today, April 18, 1993 my dad died of lung cancer. Lung cancer took my wife and tried to take my mom (but she beat it at age 87, if you knew her this wouldn't be a surprise). Breast cancer messed with me, our team captain Liz and far too many of my friends and family. I have lost those whom I love and respect, the world has lost brilliance. Cancer takes too many of us. Nestled in Western New York is one of the top Comprehensive Cancer Centers in the United States. Roswell Park does incredible research. I received a treatment that was brand new when I was diagnosed. Had I been diagnosed a couple of months earlier I would have had a mastectomy, but because of cutting edge research I was given a treatment protocol that, several years later, became the recommended care plan for "young" breast cancer patients with hormone positive, lobular carcinoma. All of that because of Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center. This is why I ride and do anything else I can do to support RPCC.
