The picture above features Kip and myself completing the 60+ miles in the 2023 Ride for Roswell. This year we will still try for the 60+ miler. This year we are riding in honor of Sister Pat Bergan in addition to Katie Creenan and Linda Zotter.
Sister Pat has been a part of our lives for over thirty years. She is the cracker-jack parish administrator, first for St. Andrew's and now for St. Lucy's. Last fall she was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and has slogged through radiation and chemotherapy. She is paler, weaker and thinner, but she continues to come to Mass and make tongue-in-cheek announcements at the end. She also continues with her parish ministries, including attending St. Lucy's CYO basketball games!
Katie and Linda continue their battles with metastatic breast cancer. Linda has now had surgery and a number of rounds of chemotherapy and has moved on to immunotherapy. Katie is receiving a brand new medication that I read about in headlines from medical journals that come to me on line. Last year I went to my 50th reunion for graduation from Johns Hopkins Medical School. One of the sessions on scientific breakthroughs during the past year reported that it is now possible to monitor for early tumor recurrence through a blood test for circulating genetic material specific to an individual person's cancer. Today Katie told me that she now is being monitored using this tool.
I ride for Roswell because I know that the treatments that Linda and Katie are receiving and the monitoring that Katie is getting would not have been available were it not for the sort of research that the Ride for Roswell funds. I pray that such research will yield solutions for other cancers too, like Sister Pat's. Please sponsor Kip and me in the Ride for Roswell this year with whatever gift you can afford to give. Gratefully, Terri and Kip
Cancer doesn’t care. It doesn’t care about age. It doesn’t care about your family or friends. It doesn’t care about what it takes from us — or who it leaves behind.
But I care. I care about making a difference in the future of cancer research and bringing an end to this devastating disease. That’s why I am participating in the 2022 Ride for Roswell!
Please help me raise critically needed funds to support the thousands of patients who turn to Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center for hope each year. Your donation provides funding that researchers need in order to investigate new treatment options that could save lives in our community and around the world. For every dollar donated, Roswell Park can leverage an additional $13 in new grant funding!
Please consider making a donation today to help find cures. Together, we can make a difference.
