I was then impacted by another great man, Michael Ciszewski. Mike had the best dry sense of humor that I appreciated alot. He was a great father, husband, coach and friend. Mike had Melanoma and lost his battle at the early age of 45. I started a RFR team, Zukes Crew in honor of him, and have been the captain for that team since.
My Dad, a fellow cyclist, had melanoma a few years ago and beat that!. Then he was diagnosed with Tongue cancer in 2012. He had surgery, everything went well but then had a recurrence. Additional treatment with radiation, fingers crossed, he is now cancer free.
Working at Roswell and reporting all the cancer cases to NYS and the National Cancer Data Base, I see how new treatments and clinical trials have a huge impact in the search for a CURE.
When I did the Empire State Ride it was amazing and life changing. The incredible stories I heard along the way, the soul searching and the AMAZING friendships that I found, I am not sure how to express how grateful I am for!
