December 12, 2022 was a day that changed my family forever. After some brief pain, my mom went to the emergency room and was shocked to discover that she had cancer. The next day she was sent to Roswell Park where they confirmed it was Stage IV Cholangiocarcinoma (bile duct cancer). For the next few weeks we discussed treatment plans and possible procedures, but it was all for naught. She died 25 days later on January 5, 2023.
For the short time she was at Roswell, she was cared for by the nicest, most patient and compassionate providers. Each professional was understanding and so very kind. We are grateful for the comfort they gave us during this strenuous time. My husband and two cousins, employees at Roswell were key members of her care team and I’ll always be thankful for their support.
My mom, Lauren Hayes, loved so many friends, family, and neighbors and always found a way to give back to others. In that spirit, I’m riding to support the efforts of Roswell Park with the hope that someday in the future no family will have to endure a painful goodbye like ours.
Please support me in her good memory.
