Cancer doesn’t care. It doesn’t care about age. It doesn’t care about your family or friends. It doesn’t care about what it takes from us — or who it leaves behind.
But I care. I care about making a difference in the future of cancer research and bringing an end to this devastating disease. That’s why I always Ride for Roswell. Again, I will participate this year in the Ride for Roswell 2024
Well, many of you know our story. Mike, my significant other, was diagnosed with throat cancer 11 years ago. Today he is cancer free, because and only because, of the unbelievable cutting-edge treatment they provided for him at Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center.
He has outlived the diagnoses on that dreadful day 11 years ago. He was told he most likely would die. His cancer was fatal. He had a stage 4 tumor that was wrapped around his carotid artery. He was not expected to live without evasive surgery that would have left him severely disfigured and unable to function without assistance. He refused, as there was no guarantee he would survive the surgery to remove it. But Roswell supported his decision and devised an experimental technique to use. He was given untested and targeted high doses of radiation along with chemotherapy to eradicate the tumor. It worked, and this technique is now used often to treat similar cancers of the throat. Mike is a survivor and alive today to talk about it. He also since that time has ridden (on three occasions) a 500 mile bike ride from New York to Niagara Falls! He is an incredible gift of hope to so many who are presently battling cancer. We are extremely grateful to Roswell Park and their teams of specialists willing to try new treatments and in doing so saved his life. Every year we give back by doing the Ride for Roswell. So needless to say, this is very near and dear to our hearts.
We always ask for many of you, family, friends and colleges to join in on that quest to raise these badly needed funds for critical, expensive, and experimental care. Please join us again this year, in helping Roswell provide the cutting-edge treatments people need to battle this terrible disease.
We also want you to know that even if you live outside of Buffalo New York, because of government initiatives these crucial drugs, treatments, and therapies are shared throughout the country’s cancer facilities, available for those who are struggling with the battle of cancer. Today it is no longer a death sentence with the right care, facility, and with the sharing of critical information. We can help save others that battle this ferocious disease.
This year Mike & I will be riding together again. We will be riding 44 miles this year. We are, and always will be strong advocates for battling cancer and supporting the institute that gave him more years to spend on this beautiful planet. We have many in our lives that have not been so lucky… and many that continue to battle, so we do what we can to help and give hope.
Thank you all for your donations whether you make them through us or someone else. We applaud your support in any way possible. Every little bit helps! Mike is living proof of that!
We hope you will help support our Ride again this year with our team you can find me and Mike under "Team Sloth!" this year. A little older and a bit wiser: Our motto "We get there when we get there"!
Note: Your donation provides funding researchers need right now to investigate new treatment options that could save lives. For every dollar donated, Roswell Park can leverage an additional $13 in new grant funding!
Please consider donating today. Together, we can end cancer!
Do not forget for those of you who work at Fisher Price / Mattel. Mattel will match your donation. Please make sure when you go to our match program to select Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center and write under purpose " For children's programing only"
