"No one wants to need a cancer hospital, but if you do, Roswell's the place." -- Eve Holberg.
Yes, I did – and do – say that. Over and over and over again.
Since you last heard from me in fundraising 2023, that came home to us in a most dramatic fashion. Even before last year’s Ride, Doug began what turned out to be a new cancer journey. One you can read about on his personal Roswell page. (Just don’t forget to navigate back here to donate!)
What he doesn’t talk about is the three grueling months he spent in and out of the hospital, the emergency trips to the Roswell Assessment and Treatment Center, the infection his care team struggled to get under control, the great big huge scary operation, the tough recuperation, brutal chemo, and on top of it all, my needing a couple of days as an inpatient guest of Roswell myself at about the least convenient moment.
And now? We’ll make up the cancelled summer vacation and recover from the emotional wounds. And he’s going to be OK. This fall, we plan to celebrate our 35th wedding anniversary in style.
Thank you, Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center.
I’ll say it again: “No one wants to need a cancer hospital. But if you do, Roswell’s the place.”
On a side note: For the first time in five years, I will be Riding in the Ride for Roswell! I’ll choose the Ride Your Own Way option to ensure I am doing as much self-care as needed. But I will be out there again. And for that: Thank you, Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center.
And thank you, friends, for your contributions in any amount. Your commitment to the Ride for Roswell keeps people like Doug Sherman and Eve Holberg alive, healthy, vibrant, together supporting one another, and on our bikes.
