To my dear friends, family, and fellow advocates,
Yesterday was a day that I should have spent celebrating Rick’s birthday with him. Of course all I could do was cherish the memories, wince at the loss, head to the golf range, and re-open my annual Ride for Roswell fundraiser. As always, and money we raise goes directly toward funding research at Rick’s surgeons lab.
Rick Runfola was a man of great character, a devoted father, loyal son, and if you knew him just right – a goofball. He was my incredible husband. He taught me so much about love, partnership, and family. We somehow brought out the very best in each other. I know that if I am able to see myself through his eyes, then I must be doing something right.
The past year plus has been challenging for most of us, in a multitude of ways. When I see my “cancer friends” going through treatments and surgeries and making life and death decisions in the midst of a global pandemic, I’m astounded by just how much they are enduring.
One thing I know is that cancer doesn’t wait for anyone or anything. Throughout all of this, people are still being diagnosed with cancer. Times are tight for many of us, but if you are able, please consider donating what you can. I raise these funds in memory of my husband Rick, and in honor of all the patients, caregivers, doctors, nurses, aides, staff, and the bereaved who all live this fight every single day.
With sincere gratitude,
