In July of 2023, Barry and I and 300 others rode over 500 miles in the Empire State Ride to raise funds for Roswell Park Cancer Institute. It was one of the best experiences of our lives. This July, we are honored to cycle again, only this time we ride, it's even more personal.
While we were on the ride last year, we learned that research dollars raised enabled the researchers at Roswell to develop a new vaccine for glioblastoma. A few weeks later, our sister, Patty Steinmetz, was diagnosed with Stage IV glioblastoma. Patty is undergoing treatment, including the vaccine, bringing hope to all of those affected by glioblastoma. This was possible due to the generosity of donors to the Empire State Ride and the Ride for Roswell.
Last year we rode in memory of our beloved nephew, P.J., and our Dad.
P.J. lost his battle with cancer at the tender age of eight after a difficult four-year fight, while my Dad battled leukemia for 1 1/2 years before we lost him to this horrific disease. Both were blessed to receive incredible care at RPCI.
This year, we are riding in memory of P.J., my Dad, and countless others affected by cancer. This year, we are riding in honor of Patty as she continues to win the battle against glioblastoma.
Please support the Empire State Ride. Every dollar raised advances cancer research in the hopes of seeing the day when there are no lives lost to this dreaded disease.
