Mike's Rough Riders

Thank you so much for visiting our Mike Rough Riders’ Team page. As this year marks the twelfth anniversary of the Mike’s Rough Rider’s team. We continue to keep Julia’s nephew Jonathan in our thoughts and prayers. Jonathan was diagnosed with brain cancer in 2015 and is doing well.

On our sixteenth anniversary of our team, we remember and honor Michael Doran, who with great enthusiasm, passion, dedication and generosity raised in excess of $8,000 in the 2008 Ride for Roswell and worked with Roswell to raise awareness of a Lung Cancer Registry aimed at early detection of lung cancer in high-risk patients among his railroad clients. Mike, who tragically died in a plane crash on April 28 2009, along with his associate Matthew Schnirel, would be proud to know that we are continuing his legacy.

This is the Seventh year that we're riding with the  "Kids Just Want to Have Fun" team. Once again we 're super excited to completely support young adult and pediatric cancer care at Roswell Park. We're very much inspired by the tremendous work that Joe and Kathy Curatolo have done for children's cancer at Roswell Park. Joe and Kathy will match riders $100 for the first $500 raised and a second $100 match after they raise $1000.  Because of the Covid-19 pandemic, we will have scheduled rides from August 1st through August 21st. We are still waiting word for the final details, but will send out a notice once we find out.

In addition to riding for Jonathan, my Aunt Rosemary, who lost her hard fought battle against breast and uterine cancer in June of 2012, and Julia’s sister-in-law, Caroline Drinnan, who fought with amazing courage and determination against a relentless malignant brain tumor, that after many treatments and surgeries, took her life in February, 2010, we ride and remember Janice Trudnowski who, despite her diagnosis of a gliobastoma in 2012, inspired us with her beautiful songs to help children diagnosed with cancer. Sadly, Janice passed away in September 25th, 2018.

This June 22nd, we will be cycling in The Ride For Roswell, an outdoor cycling event, to raise funds for Roswell Park's critical research and patient care programs, such as lung cancer and brain cancer. Roswell Park is one of the nation's first Comprehensive Cancer Centers designated by the National Cancer Institute. Today, it is the only such center in Upstate New York.

The money we raise will help researchers and clinicians better understand the causes of cancer and discover new methods of prevention, diagnosis and treatment. These funds also support compassionate patient care programs that promote the quality of life of patients and families.
