February 14, 2020 my beautiful mother was told she had stage IV lung cancer. She was so brave and took the news so well. She stayed hopeful and optimistic through her journey. She tried different options ranging from immunotherapy and different options of chemo. Unfortunately we never got good news at her 3 month check ups. The cancer spread to her adrenal glands, liver and pancreas. She ended up in the ER in July 2021 due to fluid in her lungs and was put in hospice palliative care to try to control the pain in her leg so she can try the trial drug they had for lung cancer patients. After visiting my mom in hospice I started feeling like my mom wasn't leaving the facility. August 2nd we were told mom had 2-3 weeks to live and that was the hardest thing to accept. It made me sick, I couldn't eat, sleep or concentrate at work so I did what I felt I needed to and took time off of work to spend my moms last days with her. I am grateful I was able to spend my bday eve with her and was able to be there for her at the end. She never lost hope and her faith in God kept her going. She never showed her true feelings or emotions if she was hiding her true feelings. August 19, we said our final goodbyes to my mom and she went home to be with her parent and family members who passed before her with her siblings, my dad, my brother and myself by her side. She was an amazing woman, always smiling, laughing and cared for her family with all she had, even to her last days. I am so grateful I was there those last couple weeks.
