As some my know, I am a cancer survivor. At the age of 59, I was diagnosed with Stage 3 Cancer of the Colon. My initial reaction was "Why Me?" I did everything right. I was not over-weight, I ate healthy, didn't smoke and exercised daily. What did I do to deserve this! Well, no one deserves to get cancer and that's why I'm making a promise to do something about it and help end cancer for good.
Cancer affects everyone, not just the patient but friends and family too. My family has a long history of cancer. Both grandmothers succumbed, my father, mother and younger sister, all survivors, fought their own personal battles. Brothers-in-law Randy and Paul, Heidi's husband and Sarah's brother, both lost their fights after courageous battles. I'm dedicating this fund-raiser to both their memories.
I have joined Bald for Bucks to stand in solidarity with cancer patients everywhere. And to show my support, I will be raising critically needed funds for cancer research and patient-care programs at Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center. I am here today because of the dedicated doctors and nurses at Roswell.
Robin Cramer of Shear Elegance will be cutting my hair on March 9th, and I plan on donating it to Hair We Share, an organization which makes custom wigs for children and young adults suffering hair lost as result of medical treatment.
Please consider donating. No donation is too small, and every dollar adds up to something greater than any one of us could accomplish alone. Together, we can find cancer cures and save lives.
