My Personal Blog
Two weeks from today I will be riding the hardest day of the 7 day ride: over 90 miles ending with a five mile uphill slog into camp.
You bet, it will be a challenge, but I have worked hard to be physically prepared. I've pedaled over 1,500 miles on the road as well as hours and hours on a stationary bike. I've climbed over 95,000 feet of elevation. And, I've lost 30 pounds. Those willl be 30 less pounds I'll be pushing up those hills.
And more importantly, and thanks to all of you, I am under $500 from acheiving my fundraising goal of $7,500! Becasaue of my family's long history with leukemia (4 members of my immediately family have been diagnosed with leukemia) all of those funds will go to support cutting edge research into treatments for Blood Cancers. Who knows how many people's lives will be changed because of that research.
I am deeply grateful for your support.

I'm almost ready for the ride of my life!
Here's what I've done to prepare:
1000 miles cycled (about the distance to Chicago)! And that doesn't include many hours on a stationary bike during the winter.
52,000 feet climbed (Mt. Everest is only 29,000 ft)!
25 pounds lost (the weight of the fertilizer bag I picked up the other day)!
And I am almost to my Fundraising Goal of $7,500.
All moneys raised by me will go specifically to Blood Cancer Research because my mother and three of my brothers have had Leukemia. My brothers are now cancer-free as a result of transplant treatments (I was the stem cell donor for one)! The Roswell Alliance supports cutting edge research into treatments of all cancers. By supporting my ride, you will help them continue to develop even more effective treatments.
Please give what you can.
And many thanks to those who have already contributed!

Three Months to Go!
Dear Friends and Supporters,
It is now three months until the beginning of the Empire State Ride to End Cancer, bicycling 547 miles from New York City to Niagara Falls. I am so excited about this, that I wish it were sooner! But I still have some work to do.
First; I've been doing lots of riding! Beginning in December on an indoor stationary bike, and now on the roads up and down the hills of Vermont. The result is that I am have lost over 15 lbs. and am in the best shape for this time of year ever! But 545 miles in 7 days is a lot, so I must ride on!
Second: I achieved my initial goal of raising $5,000 for the cancer research supported by Roswell Park Cancer Institute, specifically for blood cancer. It was a great birthday present to have achieved this on my birthday in March. Deep felt thanks to all of you who made that possible!
To date, 165 riders have raised a total of $280,000 with three months to go.
I have now set a new goal of $7,500 total raised. The more I raise, the more impact my ride has!
In order to help achieve this goal, I am so excited to announce the "Come Together Concert to End Cancer" on September 7th in Shrewsbury, VT. This concert featuring many local musicians will honor the memory of Tom Mitchell who died of AML Leukemia in 2006. Tom was a golden hearted musician and blessed soul who was always the first to step forward to raise money to help others. All proceeds from this concert will go towards my fundraising for Blood Cancer Research through the Roswell Park Institute.
Please help spread the word!
