This is an extraordinary year for my Ride for Roswell fundraising. As you most likely know, I was treated for pharyngeal cancer at RPCI at the end of 2016. The good news is that I am now cancer-free, but I am still in a long recovery period. Because of this experience I have accepted the challenge to raise at least $12,000 for the important research and patient care programs that benefit from the 22nd annual Ride for Roswell. This year, as in the past few years, I have committed to the Extra Mile Club Peloton that will kick off the Ride for Roswell by riding from RPCI to the University at Buffalo North Campus (13 miles). The next day we will ride the 47 mile Niagara Falls (international) route, followed by the 12 mile ride home. Last year I raised $5,000.00 for Roswell from generous contributors and supporters like you, so my 2017 goal is to more than double that amount. Hey - it's personal!
I have benefitted from the revolution in cancer research in the past decade. Researchers and physicians are beginning to understand the causes of cancer and are making inroads into new methods of prevention, diagnosis and treatment. All of us can be at risk for cancer. My cancer was caused by a virus; who knew? Like most of you I have dear friends who have been successfully treated, and I have lost family and friends to this disease. All of them will be in my thoughts as I ride.
Please help support me in this important project by contributing generously. Your tax-deductible contribution is greatly appreciated. Because I have to turn the funds in before I ride in these events, please make the payments now. Don’t wait for me to “collect” on your pledges after the rides.
Whatever you can give will help – it all adds up!! Thank you for your support and I will keep you posted on my progress.
