YOU CAN STILL DONATE ON THIS PAGE UNTIL JULY 31, 2017!!! Please help me meet my goal and help GET RID OF CANCER!
This is my sixth year raising money to fund cancer research at Roswell! The first year, I thought I'd have trouble raising $100, but I raised over $4000! So the next year I set a goal of $5000 and I raised almost $7000! So the next year after that, when my dad was deployed to Afghanistan, I set a goal of $10,000, and I raised $22,409 for cancer research! The next year my goal was to beat that amount, and I was able to raise $23,525 to help find a cure for cancer.
Last year my goal was to raise at least $25,000 for the doctors at Roswell to find a cure so no one else has to suffer from this horrible disease and I raised $29,805! ALMOST $30,000!!!
So far, since I started, I've been able to raise more than $100,000 toward cancer research at Roswell. My first goal this year was to raise $13,676 to bring my six year total raised to $100,000 and that goal was reached on February 28, 2017! And my second goal is to raise $30,000 (so I don't have to say "ALMOST $30,000" at the ride in June!!!)!
When I found out about Sister Margaret Carney's cancer diagnosis I asked her if I could form the team in her honor. Sister was President of St. Bonaventure University for 12 years and has been such a good friend to me since my dad joined her team at Bonas. I love Sister and I know she is very determined and will beat this!!! Team SBU #CarneyStrong raised more than $50,000 for Roswell last year! We're hoping to raise at least that much again this year in honor of Sister Margaret and, at her request, all Bonnies who have, had or passed away from cancer. One of those Bonnies is Mr. Jim Canty of Boston, who was a member of the Board of Trustees of St. Bonaventure. He was diagnosed with a brain cancer late last year and just passed away in May of 2017. He was only 54 and had a wife and four children.
We are also riding in memory of my awesome French teacher's beautiful daughter, Betsy Whistler, who passed away from cancer this year at age 35. Also for my uncle Colonel Dale A. Kissinger who died two years ago from cancer. We rode in honor of Uncle Dale for the past five years as he struggled with cancer, and he donated to the cause every year. He lost his battle with cancer and was buried as a hero at an incredible ceremony in Arlington National Cemetery.
Others we ride in memory of are Congressman Amo Houghton's wife, Priscilla Dewey Houghton, and Mr. Rob Liberatore's wife, Patty Liberatore, who were great ladies and are very much missed by many people. They lost their battles with cancer a couple years ago after we started riding in their honor, so now we ride in their memory.
And we are riding in honor of my cousin Kelly (Johansen) Larsen who battled breast cancer. We are riding in her honor to support her.
So please donate, and we will ride in honor or in memory of someone you know and love who is suffering from cancer or who passed away after their fight with cancer. Will will carry their names with us while we ride. We currently ride in honor and in memory of hundreds of people who our donors ask us to remember.
All of the money goes directly to cancer research at our nation's first comprehensive cancer center, Roswell Park Cancer Institute. They do such wonderful things to help prevent, treat, and someday cure cancer! They are so close in many ways to finding a cure, but we have to help because cancer is not going to cure itself!
Please consider donating today. Thank you so much!
