On Thursday, January 25th the Pembroke Girls Basketball team will be hosting their 7th annual Shooting For A Cure! benefit to raise awareness and funds for cancer research in conjunction with Roswell Park Cancer Institute. Roswell Park has sanctioned our event and greatly values what our team has been able to do over the past six seasons. Our Shooting For A Cure! campaign serves as a means to help raise funds for cancer research at Roswell Park as well as bringing further awareness to the disease.
Based on last season’s success, our team firmly believes in this cause and will be hosting another game this upcoming season to honor those individuals in our faculty, immediate families, and community at large whose lives have been impacted by cancer. That evening, the girls will take the court versus the Oakfield Hornets at 7:00pm and do what they do best–play basketball–to show their love and support for all who have been impacted by cancer.
Last year with the support of local area business and generous community members, our program was able to raise over $20,000 for Roswell Park Cancer Institute in one night! Over the past six seasons we have been fortunate enough to have had the support of ADPRO Sports, AdWorks Inc., Buffalo Bills, Buffalo Sabres, Buffalo Bandits, Buffalo Bisons, The Clarence Deli, Courage of Carly Foundation, Coca-Cola of Rochester, Crickler’s Vending, Dave & Adams Card World, Hershey's Ice Cream, Northtowne Automotive, Original Pizza Logs, Salvatore’s Italian Gardens, Yancey’s Fancy, YMCA and Zubaz… and the list continues to grow each season! In our previous six seasons, we’ve raised over $60,000 for Roswell Park and hope to keep this benevolent tradition focused on supporting those in need in our community.
In preparation for our game on January 25th, we will be seeking donations from our community to make this year’s event even more successful than the last. We are in need of additional support from local area businesses with items that could be raffled off, as well as food, beverage and/or merchandise that could be sold that evening with 100% of the proceeds going to benefit cancer research at Roswell Park.
In the past the girls have held fundraisers to raise funds for their own benefit; however they would like to use their platform as student-athletes to better serve the Pembroke community as well as Western NY. In our district, there have been several faculty, family, and community members widely impacted by cancer diagnoses. We would greatly appreciate any additional support that your business is willing to provide our Shooting For A Cure! event. Any donation, big or small, would be happily accepted. Thank you for your support!
