Thank you for visiting our team page for the TOPS 5K/10K Run and Family Walk!
We are running for Rich Baker, a patient of Roswell Park Cancer Instititute. Rich is the father of one of our team mate, Lora Thomas. Rich was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma in the fall of 2002 and fought through multiple rounds of chemo before being told he was in remission the spring of 2003.
Rich remained in remission for nearly 14 years before receving the news that he would again be fighting stage IV Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma on Halloween in 2016. Never did he ever think he would be back in the world of fighting cancer after being in remission for so long. He was immediately admitted to Roswell Park on Halloween of 2016 and began 4 rounds of intense chemotherapy that required in-patient hospitlization for each round.
In March of 2017 he went through an autologous bone marrow transplant (self-donation of stem cells). He went through 6 days of intensive chemotherapy before his own stem cells were transplanted back on March 7, 2017. This became his second birthday. He remained at Roswell for 3 1/2 weeks and continues to recover from the transplant.
Despite all his battles, Rich remains positive. As he says, "Cancer is tough, but I am tougher."
Please consider supporting out team. Together, we can help find cancer cures and save lives.
