With one in two men and one in three women in America being diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime, most of us know someone who has been affected by this devastating disease.
Mine was my Uncle Vincent, who, within 9 months went from an active and outgoing individual to a shell of his former self due to pancreatic cancer. One of the best memories I have of him was one of the last. He spent Thanksgiving with us, and had complained about not being able to "taste" food due to the chemo he was receiving. I had made his Mother's lasagna and pizzelles to accompany the traditional turkey. He was so pleased and grateful to have it and to taste something he so fondly remembered. By Christmas he was a full-time patient at Roswell. They were so wonderful to him, caring for him and making him as comfortable as possible until he passed away 3 weeks later in mid-January.
