In June of 2011 I participated in my first Ride for Roswell. Little did I know that two months later I would be diagnosed with Stage III colorectal cancer and become a patient of Roswell Park Cancer Institute myself. I was only 35 years old when I was diagnosed. While a patient at Roswell Park I underwent the radiation and chemotherapy components of my treatment. I actively stopped treating for cancer in July 2012 and last year reached the five-year mark of being cancer free.
While I can see the physical effects and evidence on my body every day from my cancer experience, in many respects I consider myself lucky. Lucky that I am I still here. Lucky that I can say that there is a "post-cancer" period to my life. This is due, in part, to the treatment that I received at Roswell Park Cancer Institute.
This year I am happy and proud to be part of the Rupp Baase Pfalzgraf Cunningham LLC team in the Ride for Roswell. This year I'm riding 30 miles and I'm hoping to raise $1,000.00 for Roswell Park Cancer Institute.
I would ask that you please donate what you can to help support my ride this year and Roswell Park Cancer Institute.
