As you might be able to infer from my picture, I like having long hair. It is a choice I make that reflects my tastes, and reflects who I am as a person. All things being equal, I wouldn't have it any other way. Cancer doesn't give a person a choice, however, and many of those confronted with cancer are forced to lose this part of their identity in their fight to survive. In recognition of this, I’m Goin’ Bald for Bucks to help in the fight against cancer! I will be shaving my hair to raise critically needed funds for cutting-edge cancer research and compassionate, innovative patient-care programs at Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center.
Cancer is an insidious disease, that can be both difficult to detect and to diffuse. It is so pervasive that it is uncommon to encounter a person who has not yet been touched, to at least some degree, by the disruption and suffering it brings. In many ways, it is the stuff of nightmares; however, it is not some unbeatable monster.
It has been repeatedly demonstrated that cancer can be combatted (with increasing success), and even evaded to some degree. We've made great strides in prevention, screening, and treatment - but there is much still to be done - and I am determined to make a difference. Please consider making a donation. No donation is too small, and every dollar adds up to something greater than any one of us could accomplish alone. Hope is made real by standing up and fighting; together, we can help find cancer cures and save lives.
